Ashtanga
Ashtanga yoga is the system taught by Sri K. Pattabhi
Jois at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore,
India. This method of yoga involves synchronizing the
breath with a progressive series of postures—a process
producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying
sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is
improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm
mind. Sam our instructor has trained and continues to
visit Mysore, she has practiced Ashtanga for 9 years.
Hatha
Hatha
Yoga is the Yoga of movement, it is in fact all yoga and
for some the true meaning of Yoga. The style as we know
it today, contains the fundamental principals of Yoga
and the most familiar poses. It is the perfect class for
beginners and more advanced yogis, because the emphasis
in a Hatha class is always about understanding the pose
and working through it at your own pace to completion.
Prananyama ~ breathing and meditation is almost always
included in a Hatha class, typically at the end of the
class.
Sivananda
Sivananda yoga is a unique approach to classical yoga.
It simplifies the yoga method making it compatible with
a modern lifestyle. Emphasis is given to the internal
dynamics, in particular the bandhas (energetic dynamic)
and their impact on the breath. This, alongside breath
- body synchronisation and fluidity of movement is an
approach shared by Astanga Vinyasa Yoga. The breath is
used as a tool for entering and leaving the postures,
which allows both the body and mind to relax and open.
Sivananda Yoga is recommended for all levels and abilities,
for those wishing to improve flexibility and strength
and attain a calm and focussed mind.
Hot
Yoga
Taught by a highly motivated and experienced teachers
with an excellent understanding of technique. The series
of hatha postures taught in a heated room treats the whole
body beneficially, building new levels of energy and improving
balance strength and flexibility. This maintains a healthy
body and mind, strengthening the connection and improving
your will-power, patience and concentration. It can therefore
help and support fundamental change. The class is open
to all levels and abilities.
Pregnancy

and spiritual journey of childbirth. This class provides
safe, simple & effective exercises designed to strengthen
& relax your rapidly changing body, and combines yogic
breathing techniques and meditation to help guide you
through your pregnancy and prepare you for childbirth.
Away from the stress of daily life, this time will give
you space to focus entirely on yourself, your pregnancy
and your developing baby.
Pilates
more than a series of random exercises, Pilates is a complete
approach to developing body awareness and an easy physicality
in day-to-day life. It is beneficial for injury prevention,
remedial and rehabilitation work, the improvement of technique
for athletes and dancers, and is a good method of exercise
for ante and post natal women, the elderly and for children
from 12 years old. Pilates helps to increase and create
a balance between strength and flexibility and create
an awareness of and strengthen dynamic stability.
Kundalini
is a synthesis of the ancient wisdom of yoga into five
basic principles: proper exercise (asana), proper breathing
(pranayama), proper relaxation (savasana - physical, mental
and spiritual), proper diet (sattvic - vegetarian diet)
and positive thinking and meditation (dhyana). The asanas
work on all the various systems of the body, creating
suppleness in the spine and joints and toning the muscles,
glands and internal organs. This integral system of health,
with its gentle, smooth and fluid movements, cultivates
an overall feeling of well being and wholeness - peace
of mind in an ever-changing world and the confidence to
take life in your stride.
